This is a guideline to what is expected of a parent, in the roll for the Board of Management
They are obliged to attend the 5 meetings per year. Usually 1/2 per term. There may be additional meetings if I have to appoint staff and we would have a meeting to ratify the appointment. I bring policies to be ratified by the B.O.M. to meetings and I email them to the Board members in advance to read through and seek their input. At meetings we would discuss the overall management of the school e.g. applying for grants from the Dept of Education; the managing of the ancillary staff; upkeep of the building and there would be shared decision making. Ultimately the Board needs to show their support to the Principal who is in charge of managing the school on a day to day basis. There will be training arranged by the Diocesan Office when the Boards are formed, especially in the area of Child Protection.
